Heat pump calculator

Would a heat pump cost you less than gas?

Five quick steps. We use your home, today's prices and realistic efficiency, not best-case numbers. You'll see the answer as you go.

Please check before you decide. This is an estimate, not a quote or a design. Before you decide, check it with a survey of your home, a room-by-room heat loss calculation, your actual energy bills and a full system design from an MCS certified installer. We can recommend an MCS certified installer near you. Ask for one with your results.

Step 1 of 4Your home

Start with your postcode. If your home has an EPC, we'll fill in what we can. Check every answer.

We check your postcode with postcodes.io and look up your home's Energy Performance Certificate on the government's EPC register (England and Wales only). We only send them your postcode and house number.

How the calculator works

The calculator estimates how much heat your home needs from its size, age, walls, loft and windows, or from your yearly gas use if you enter it. It then works out the electricity a heat pump would use to deliver the same heat, month by month, at the efficiency we expect for your radiators. It compares your whole home's yearly energy bills on gas today with a heat pump, using the current Ofgem price cap unless you enter your own prices. You can add solar panels or a battery to see what they change.

The recommended size comes from your home's estimated heat loss on a cold day in your region. An MCS certified installer confirms the size with a room-by-room survey.

Questions

It's an estimate, not a quote or a design. Entering your yearly gas use from a bill makes it much more accurate. Before you decide, check it with a survey of your home, a room-by-room heat loss calculation and a full design from an MCS certified installer.
